Sleeping bags come in two main categories, natural fill bags stuffed with duck or goose down and man made synthetic fill bags. Both have their own advantages. Down has much better insualtion properties weight for weight when compared to a synthetic fill and also compresses down more whilst retaining its loft when uncompressed. This makes bags lighter and smaller but retaining the same temperature rating as the equivalent synthetic bag. With water repellant fabric outers such as Pertex Endurance and finished with a DWR coating to help keep the down dry, a modern down sleeping bag is a fantastic investment that will give you many long years service.

Synthetic bags are approaching down bags in terms of performance but have the advantage of being cheaper! They are also easier to clean and look after but do have a shorter life span than down bags.

Sleeping bags come with temperature ratings and season ratings, we believe it is important to take these with a pinch of salt so to speak. Two people sleeping in identical bags at the same temperature may not necessarily be as comfortable as each other, if you find that you feel the cold when sleeping in a normal bed, you would want to buy a slightly warmer rated bag than is advertised for its temperature/season rating. Also it is important to bear in mind factors such as how much you have eaten or what clothing you are wearing in the bag. All these can have a dramatic effect on the performance you get from your sleeping bag.

To give you the widest possible choice we stock down bags from the UK's leading down specialist producer, Rab and also from Nanok, a scandanavian company with years of experience producing down equipment. If you want a synthetic bag then we stock the entire Snugpak Softie range as well as their traveller series and also bags by Vango.
